APPLICATIONS MAY BE OBTAINED AND SUBMITTED ONLINE AT: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/cityofprineville The Prineville Police Department is accepting applications for qualified*LATERAL POLICE OFFICER**A lateral police officer is one who is currently FULL-TIME employed and is in good standing with his/her current police agency as a sworn police officer (responsible for 9-1-1 calls) for a recognized state, county or city (municipal) entity. * Out of state officers are welcomed to apply if your state certification is accepted/transferrable through Oregon's Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Academy.New Hire Incentives: Sign on bonusSalary Incentives: The following salary incentives shall be applied to monthly base salary upon hire if applicable/approved, and/or received and assigned/approved.3.5% incentive for Field Training Officer assignment.2.5% incentive for successfully passing ORPAT*3.5% incentive for longevity (10 years of continuous employment). 4% incentive for DPSST Intermediate Certification. 7% incentive for DPSST Advance Certification. 5% Incentive for Bi-Lingual. 5% Detective Assignment*Must complete ORPAT within 5 min 30 sec semi-annually to maintain incentive. Screening Process: Upon review of application materials and, if selected, successful candidate will be invited for the screening process to be completed as follows, if possible. TEST DATE: December 11, 2021ORPAT (must complete within 5 minutes 30 seconds)Formal panel interviewPrior to a formal offer being extended, selected candidates will be extended a conditional offer of employment contingent upon a successful preemployment background investigation followed by a successful psychological and medical evaluation including drug screen. NATURE OF WORKThis position performs law enforcement and crime prevention duties including patrol and investigations. Enforces federal, state, and local laws, regulations and ordinances. Assists in EMS and provides public assistance; performs other duties as necessary for the proper functioning of the department. Must be willing to work 8, 10 or 12-hour shift assignments. Officers must be willing to work day shift, swing shift or graveyard shift assignments including weekends and holidays.SUPERVISION RECEIVED/REVIEW OF WORK: Work is normally performed under the general supervision of the Patrol Sergeant or assigned shift commander who assigns and reviews work for conformance to laws and departmental rules and regulations. Ultimately under the command of the Chief of Police and Captain.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The duties listed are intended only as Illustrative examples of the various types of work that may be performed by individuals in this classification. Any of the following duties may be performed. These examples are not necessarily performed by all incumbents and do not include all specific essential functions and responsibilities the incumbent may be expected to perform.Patrol streets, alleys, roads, business and residential areas of the City, enforcing parking, traffic and criminal laws and ordinances; checks suspicious person and vehicles.Responds to wide variety of service and investigative calls including but not limited to crimes, violations, juvenile complaints, family disputes, barking dogs and takes appropriate action.Investigates accidents, deaths, and criminal complaints; makes arrests and issues citations and warnings when appropriate; handles prisoners as required by law.Prepares full and comprehensive reports on activities performed.Assists the public by answering inquiries regarding directions, laws and ordinances; aids stranded motorists; checks road conditions, street signs and street lights; gives other assistance to the public as needed.Testifies in court, serves warrants and subpoenas.Provides miscellaneous field services; assists other officers, including communications and corrections, in their duties.Makes security checks on business and public buildings.Interviews witnesses and suspects, takes photographs, collects evidence, processes latent prints rolls fingerprints, and conducts follow-up investigations.Directs traffic and generally provides traffic control at scenes of fires, parades, and other special events, malfunctioning traffic signals, motor vehicles collision scenes, etc.Makes recommendations to superior officers concerning departmental policies, procedures, and activities.Maintains working liaison with other law enforcement agency personnel.Performs animal and ordinance officer duties as needed or assigned.Maintains assigned patrol vehicle and work station in clean, orderly and working conditions.Jointly responsible with all other employees for the overall cleanliness and order of the police facility.Demonstrates consistent, regular and reliable work attendance of duties in vary shifts and assignments.Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Prior law enforcement and/or college degree in related field preferred; OR any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Organize and plan own work schedule to meet workflow demands in a timely and efficient manner.Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, ordinances, and resolutions as applies to the Police and Emergency Dispatch departments.Reads, analyzes, and interprets reports, and other related documents.Knowledge of modern principles, practice and methods of law enforcement.Ability to respond to inquiries from the general public and members of the business community in a professional, well-informed manner.Knowledge and use of business English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and composition.Works well with others in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork.Ability to deal with confidential information and/or issues using discretion and good judgment.Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees, the City Council, the media and the general public.Self-motivated worker with strong sense of honor and integrity.Ability to make reasonable and sound decisions in stressful situations.Special Requirements/Licenses: Possess a valid Oregon driver's license with acceptable driving record. (Or the ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within two weeks of hire.) Requires certification through Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within one year. Requires successful completion of the Field Training Program. Must be as least 21 years of age and be a US citizen or be able to obtain citizenship within 18 months after date of appointment. Applicants must pass a medical exam and psychological evaluation prior to appointment. Applicants must pass a physical agility test. Vision may not be less than 20/20 in one or both eyes or correct 20/20 in both eyes. Must be free of conviction of a crime other than a minor traffic violation.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
This is a non-supervisory position. Lead work/coordination of the work of others is not a typical function assigned to this position. Incumbents in this position may provide training, and orientation to newly assigned personnel. A Patrol Officer may provide direct supervision of any cadet or reserve officer, or citizen rider currently assigned to or riding with the officer.
