DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Unit Secretary/CNA 2
positions include Unit Secretary/CNAs on various units throughout
St. Charles Health System. These departments include but are
not limited to Med/Surg, Medical, Surgical, Ortho/Neuro,
Pediatrics, Inpatient Rehab, Intermediate Care Unit, Intensive Care
Units, Procedural departments and floats. These departments
provide 24/7 specialized care to patients throughout their
hospitalization and discharge.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Unit Secretary/CNA
2 provides patient and family focused care as a CNA 2 and
part of the health care team in accordance with the SCHS mission,
philosophy, policies and procedures and within the parameters
established by the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Helps to
facilitate functions of the department, by performing clerical
duties related to patient care and department flow.
Responsibilities include administrative duties within the
department. Acts as the department facilitator; communicates
with the general public and various hospital departments,
physicians and nursing personnel. This position does not
directly supervise any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Promotes patient’s independence, respects privacy, and maintains
patients’ rights to decide about care and reports findings.
Technical skills: maintains competency in supportive care for
the patient, operates equipment safely and properly, and carries
out nursing orders within the scope of practice of the CNA 2.
Follows directions in the delivery of care.
Recognizes/reports and records patient observations and care
Gives clear directions and reinforces teaching to patients and
families regarding basic health care needs.
Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers,
patients and guests. Supports the Nursing team in decreasing harm
across the continuum of patient care as authorized per the duties
and standards of the CNA 2 role.
Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance
with hospital policies, procedures and regulatory

Required: As required by licensure.
Willingness to take additional courses as requested.
Required: Certified Nursing Assistant – Level II in Acute
Care with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider

Preferred: Previous hospital experience/medical
Previous CNA experience.
