Depending on classification, this position will perform a variety of moderately complex too difficult and complex legal clerical duties, which may require a thorough and specialized knowledge of legal terms and formats. Incumbent will provide administrative support for Deputy District Attorneys, including preparing and issuing legal documents, creating and maintaining case files, coordinating restitution and jury instructions, and scheduling hearings.This posting is not meant to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities, but rather constitutes a general definition of the position's scope and function. (/careers/deschutes/classspecs) Compensation Trial Assistant I: $3,590.81 to $4,812.05 - Trial Assistant II: $3,958.87 to $5,305.29 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union represented position is available immediately. Placement is dependent upon education and experience. Minimum Qualifications Trial Assistant I: High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND one year of office clerical support and computer experience; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job. Trial Assistant II: High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND two years of legal office and computer experience; OR any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the job. Preference will be given for: + Experience with Oregon Judicial Information Network (OJIN), and certification in Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS). + Bilingual in Spanish and English. + Knowledge of cataloging systems. Must have knowledge of: + DAO policies, procedures, organization, and operations. + Relevant statutes, policies and procedures, and specialized court software applications. + Basic legal system and law enforcement agency procedures and terminology. + Principles of record keeping, case files, and records management. + Basic laws and regulations governing the release of information from Court records. Must have skill in: + Reading legal documents, and extracting relevant information. + Learning to draft, prepare, file, and distribute various types of legal documents. + Creating reports, technical documents, and legal correspondence. + Dealing tactfully and courteously with people seeking information about DAO functions and activities. + Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software, and entering information into a computer system with speed and accuracy. + Effectively handling hostile, angry, and emotional customers. + Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers, attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other participants in the criminal justice process. + Communicating effectively verbally and in writing. Necessary Special Requirements Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended. Physical Requirements: Must have the ability to work in an office that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment. The position is frequently required to sit, walk, stoop, bend, reach, stand, grasp, talk, hear, see, and may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds. Excellent County benefit package when eligible.
