TITLE: Director- Ortho/Neuro Service Line Integration

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: The Perioperative and Cardiovascular Services department provides specialized care to patients throughout their surgical and procedural experience in the St. Charles acute care setting.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director of Ortho / Neuro Service Line Integration is responsible for cultivating an effective partnership between hospital operations and various service lines. Successful partnership includes proactively planning for future growth, building capital forecasts, developing clinical pathways, increasing operational efficiencies, and improving affordability and provide optimal experiences for our patients and caregivers. This includes aligning around True North, supporting improvement initiatives, and ensuring effective communication between the stakeholders. In support of this role and priorities, the Director of Service Line Integration will oversee patient optimization (pre-surgery clinic) and logistics (peri-op & CV) for the system, partner with leaders of the inpatient and outpatient services involved in the continuum of care, and will be an active participant in the Hospital Nursing Directors team and OR Governance Structure for the system including chairing various sub-committees (e.g. system Value Analysis Team).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

The Director of Service Line Integration will oversee patient optimization (pre-surgery clinic) and logistics (peri-op & CV) for the system and will be an active participant in the OR Governance Structure for the system including chairing various sub-committees (e.g. system Value Analysis Team).

Provide administrative partnership in the execution of applicable co-management agreements

Provide direction and support integration of initiatives that require operational delivery. i.e. implementation of the Ortho Trauma Service and opening a Total Joint Short Stay model.

Consistently serves as administrative leader for medical staff and operational meetings; including those that occur outside of common business hours and weekdays.

Serve as Process Owner to any associated Value Streams through embracing the Value Improvement Practice (VIP) process and continuous improvement tools.

Collaborates and cohesively partners with administration, operations and physicians in assigned service lines, to develop, plan, coordinate, analyze and operationalize strategic and tactical approaches within the departments to meet clinical and financial outcomes of the service lines at the System, joint venture/co-management and community level.

Facilitates and coordinates all services supporting patients cared for in assigned service lines. This includes optimization of pre-surgical patients and the spectrum of acute care services, as well as a focus on partnering with service line leaders in the St. Charles Medical Group, external partners and other providers involved in patient care including screening and prevention, chronic disease management, and rehabilitation/recovery within the assigned service lines.

Assures safe & financially efficient management of all service contracts, equipment, and materials and implants used for procedural cases. Partners with Supply Chain leadership.

Actively contributes to the community and participates in a civic organization(s).

Works with key administrators, including advisory committees, other providers and St. Charles Health System support services to provide advice and support that relate to the service and financial success of the assigned service line(s) and St. Charles Health System.

Contributes to special projects that require multi-disciplinary approaches, serving as counsel and facilitator to build bridges with other departments, community partners and support services.

Provides direction to process improvement activities and collaborates across the continuum maintaining and promoting a culture of safety and lean initiatives.

Ensures strong communication with management, co-leader, advisory councils, medical team and patients.

Maintains working knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission and other applicable laws and regulations as they relate to assigned responsibilities.

Represents all partners and the organization in its relationships with the external St. Charles Health System environment including but not limited to the community, other regulatory and health care agencies and the region.

Facilitates securing donations for programs and projects related to the delivery of integrated orthopedic services.

Coaches and mentors, staff across their area of responsibility to enhance skills, achieve high levels of performance, and create a culture of continuous learning that delivers on the mission.

Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.

Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change. Applies VIP concepts and tools to daily responsibilities.

EDUCATION

Required: Master’s degree, preferably in a health related field or will consider 3 years of Director level leadership experience, and completion of a Master’s Degree program within 3 years of date of hire required.

Preferred: MSN, MBA, MPA

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

Required: Current RN licensure with the Oregon State Board of Nursing

Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet St Charles Health System driving requirements required

Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all SCHS worksites required

EXPERIENCE

Required:

Seven years of related experience and two years of management experience.

Demonstrated ability to lead service line or equivalent initiatives including partnership with medical staff and community entities

Preferred: It is highly preferred for the candidate to have developed an integrated orthopedic delivery system in a competitive market or prior management experience in an integrated delivery system. Orthopedic and/or Neuro surgical care services experience is preferred.
