Job Description:
The DA Investigator(s) for the Crook County District Attorney’s
Office are sworn police officers, certified by the Department of
Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). The DA Investigator
is responsible for conducting criminal and administrative
investigations for the Crook County District Attorney’s Office
(CCDA). Job Summary: This role involves enforcing state laws,
supporting prosecuting attorneys with all aspects of case
investigation and coordinating with other federal, state, and
regional law enforcement agencies (LEA). The investigator will
gather and preserve evidence, conduct interviews, prepare court
exhibits, and assist in follow-up investigations for cases. The
position plays a critical role in supporting the CCDA in the
prosecution of criminal cases and ensuring thorough investigative
work. This is a flexibly staffed classification whereby incumbents
may be promoted to the next level after gaining the knowledge,
skill, and experience by demonstrating the ability to perform the
work of the higher-level classification as determined by standards

function. Investigator I - Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the District Attorney in managing and supervising Deputy
District Attorneys I, DA Investigator(s), and non-sworn employees.
Number of employees reporting to this position: 1-5. Develop and
implement processes and procedures for investigating a variety of
criminal activities and administrative investigations. Supervise
any CCDA investigator(s). Foster a collaborative, productive, and
supportive team culture. Ensure that team members are adhering to
best practices, organizational protocols, laws, and office policies
during all investigations and casework. Conduct follow-up
investigations on criminal cases prosecuted by the CCDA and assist
Deputy District Attorneys in preparing and investigating cases.
Assess investigations for weaknesses and/or areas needing further
investigation. Interview victims, witnesses, and law enforcement
regarding cases prosecuted or investigated by CCDA. Monitor case
progress to ensure timely and accurate completion of investigations
and follow-up. Supervise and assist attorneys with trial
preparation by analyzing case facts and physical evidence in
accordance with State and Constitutional law and the rules of
evidence. Serve as liaison with law enforcement agencies, community
partners, and assist attorneys with criminal investigations and all
aspects of prosecution. Respond to and assist with managing crime
scenes, work collaboratively with the Major Incident Team and
Incident Command teams. This position is subject to call out
twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Review reports for
completeness and ensure compliance with governing statutes, rules
of evidence and suspects rights. Assist with locating victims and
witnesses and serve subpoenas as needed. Prepare written reports
detailing the investigation and casework done by the Investigator
and law enforcement. May testify at Grand Jury or in Court as
needed. Attend Court and testify as needed. Conduct background and
administrative investigations for the CCDA. Investigator II -
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct follow-up
investigations on criminal cases prosecuted by the CCDA and assist
the District Attorney and Deputy District Attorneys in preparing
and investigating cases. Interview victims, witnesses, and law
enforcement regarding cases prosecuted or investigated by CCDA.

Competencies: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The DA
Investigator II must be able to independently investigate complex
investigations, multi-jurisdictional investigations, and work
independently under general supervision. Ability to work under
general supervision from the District Attorney and independently
investigate information and people, conduct interviews, write
reports, serve subpoenas, deliver legal documents, review CDDA
cases, prioritize assignments, and perform duties within scope of
authority and in compliance with CDDA policies. Familiarity with
County policies and procedures. Understanding of CCDA protocols and
procedures. Knowledge of State and Federal laws, including
regulations related to evidence handling and criminal
investigations. Proficient in interview and interrogation
principles, techniques, and methods. Ability to serve subpoenas and
interview witnesses effectively, even when dealing with difficult
or uncooperative individuals. Ability to testify before courts and
grand juries and explain pertinent provisions of the law, evidence,
and investigative actions. Skilled in securing, handling, and
preserving evidence according to proper protocols. Knowledge of
investigative procedures, including techniques for observation and
memory retention of key details. Familiar with best practices for
managing official documents and court records. Understanding of the
legal system, law enforcement operations, rules of evidence, and
criminal justice terminology. Expertise in record-keeping and case
file management and ability to maintain confidential information.
Strong ability to coordinate and perform investigative functions,
including identifying and pursuing leads. Capable of working
independently, managing multiple tasks, and prioritizing
effectively. Proficient in interpreting evidence and regulations,
making decisions, and maintaining composure under pressure or in
emergency situations. Skilled in handling sensitive situations with
diplomacy, fairness, sound judgment, and understanding. Strong
memory for names, faces, and critical details related to incidents.
Proficient in using personal computers and standard or specialized
software. Skilled in building and maintaining cooperative
relationships with colleagues, attorneys, law enforcement, and
other criminal justice stakeholders. Ability to carry and use a
serviceable firearm in the field and maintain proficiency while
working both in the field and the office. Excellent verbal and
written communication skills. Demonstrates courteous and
professional behavior when interacting with visitors and County
staff. Committed to promoting County goals and priorities while
adhering to policies and procedures. Investigator I -
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: Education –
Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business
Administration, or related field; AND at least four (4) years of
criminal investigative experience as a Law Enforcement Officer; OR
any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
that provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the
essential functions of the job. Must have jury trial experience
Possession of or ability to obtain DPSST certification as a peace
officer at time of appointment. Possession of or ability to obtain
a valid Oregon Driver’s License within 30 days of hire date.
Preference will be given for: Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Prior to or on date of hire: Able to complete and pass a thorough
background check. Able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug
test. Final candidates will be required to provide official proof
of college degree and certified transcripts. Investigator II -
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: Education –
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business
Administration, or related field; AND at least six (6) years of
criminal investigative experience as a Law Enforcement Officer,
with at least two (2) years of supervisory experience; OR any
equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that
provides the required skills and knowledge to perform the essential
functions of the job. Must have jury trial experience. Possession
of or ability to obtain DPSST certification as a peace officer at
time of appointment. Preference given for possession of
intermediate or advanced police certificate from DPSST.
Intermediate police certificate requires in addition to minimum
hours of training: Bachelors and 3 years experience or Associates
and 4 years experience. Advanced police certificate requires in
addition to minimum hours of training: Masters and 6 years
experience; Bachelors and 7 years experience; or Associates and 9
years experience. Preference will be given for: Bilingual in
English and Spanish. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid

Requirements: Work is performed in a standard office environment,
and in the field on work assignments; subject to extended periods
of intense concentration in performing investigations and
investigative tasks and evaluating activities going on around one’s
location on a constant basis. This position is subject to being on
call 24 hours a day. · This is a full-time position. Days and hours
of work are to be determined by the District Attorney, but are
generally Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend
work may be required. · Work attire is business casual attire,

to pass a psychological evaluation prior to appointment and must be
able to pass a physical agility test. This position requires
sufficient hand/eye coordination to operate equipment, weapons and
apparatus; visual acuity necessary for performing necessary
functions of the job, ambulatory ability to walk while at work and
