Job Description:
Job OverviewThe Controls Engineer works closely with project
engineers, project managers, and ESI's O&M teams to provide
industrial control system design for the company's ongoing biogas
utilization projects. The position requires implementing sound
engineering principles to ensure project designs are at the
industry's cutting edge. An ability to work independently,
self-motivate, and communicate effectively with team members is of
the utmost importance to this position.Reports ToThe Controls
Engineer reports to the I&C Engineering Lead, as a member of
the Instrumentation and Controls group.LocationHybrid Remote/Office
based out of Sisters, OR (Headquarters), or Denver, CO (Satellite
Office).Full remote option available for Senior Controls Engineers
with at least 10+ year experience.Responsibilities and Duties
- Design and review control system documentation including
Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), equipment and instrumentation
specifications, data sheets, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
(P&IDs), control narratives, I/O list, electrical drawings, and
operation manuals.
- Specify measurement and analysis instrumentation and control
components for automated industrial process control and plant
safety.
- PLC programming and SCADA design.
- Prepare and review UL panel drawings for fabrication.
- Participate in project HAZOP studies.
- Support the review and response to contractor RFIs.
- Support Field Service work with through remote and on-site
process troubleshooting and optimization.
- Plan and participate in on-site startup and commissioning
activities.
- Interact with other engineering disciplines and departments
throughout the company.
- Seek ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrating
accuracy and thoroughness in all work.Minimum Qualifications
- This is a mid-level position requiring a minimum of 3-5 years
of control engineering-related experience in some of or all the
following industries: Renewable Energy; Gas Processing; Chemical;
Power; Waste Management; Environmental Air Quality Control System,
Other Industrial Process Automation.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a similarly technical field
from an accredited university.
- E.I.T. certification or ability to obtain certification within
6 months of hire.
- Working knowledge of ISA, NFPA, UL, safety codes, fire codes,
and other industry standards.
- Proficiency in process control instrumentation.
- Proficiency in PLC programming and data communication.
- Proficiency in UL panel design.
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software. (Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Preferred
Qualifications
- Proficiency with Rockwell Automation, GE and Automation Direct
products and software.
- Proficiency in SCADA design.
- Proficiency in Gas Analysis.
- Experience in maintenance planning and preventative maintenance
strategies.
- Experience tuning control loops.
- Advanced optimization, trouble shooting, and/or process design
skills in a process simulation package.
- Experience in process optimization, troubleshooting, and root
cause analysis (RCA) in an energy or manufacturing
environment.
- Experience withprocess metrics and reporting key performance
indicators (KPI).
- Candidate
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to
deal with complex problems and present recommendations and findings
in a clear, concise format; ability to interact effectively at all
levels within and outside of ESI. Ability to communicate
effectively with team members, vendors, contractors, and
leadership.
- Quick learner who adapts well to a fast-moving environment and
gets things done, combines creativity, problem-solving skills, and
a can-do attitude to overcome any obstacle.
- Highly motivated and willing to take on multiple
responsibilities at once; strong organizational skills with the
ability to multitask in an environment with changing priorities.
Travel
- Ability and willingness to travel.
- Travel up to 25%.Benefits
- Competitive salary range $75,000-$115,000, dependent on
experience and background.
